Morning Star Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School – This is a huge school for both boys and girls. As is customary in Tanzania, kindergarten and primary students go home each day; secondary students live on campus during the school year. The school grows all the food for the students and staff. To help provide protein for the children, Sister Julitha (Foundress of the school) built a tilapia pond sloping from shallow to deep water. The young fish stay in the shallow end and the mature fish that are large enough to eat, stay in the deep end. This allows the staff to easily fish for tilapia. A staple in Tanzania is Ungali, a mixture of corn flour mixed with water and cooked. Children and staff eat it plain for breakfast or with beans for lunch.
